Prompt & Link: “Empowered”

February 29, 2008

9:00 AM Friday morning, February 29th, 2008, on the U.S. west coast, is quickly approaching — so… here I am with a new Prompt!

This week’s, and the twenty fourth Writer’s Island prompt is: “Empowered”.

As always, I don’t want to unduly influence your interpretation of this week’s prompt. Simply reflect on “Empowered” — then please share with us what that inspires in you. Move us with your words!

••> This week, for our second bit of inspiration, we turn to the new movie release, The Other Boleyn Girl, as the source of our second ever ‘Matinee Muse’ prompt — and the prompt it inspires is: “Rivalry”. See if that sparks anything for you.

As I wrote last week regarding this ‘extra’ weekly prompt; if we respond to these ‘Matinee Muse’ prompts — they may become a regular weekly offering. <••

Feel free to use either, or both, of this week’s prompts — or use neither if you so choose. Whatever moves your soul this week is what we all want to read.

So, create your poem, prose, short story, essay, commentary, or whatever — and post it on your blog. Feel free to include recordings of you reading your work — and any photo, artwork, or graphic representation you feel is relevant.

When you have finished your piece, please return here to this post and place your link to your work as a comment — and as you know, just the link, not the piece.

Please realize there is no need to rush, this post will be open to receive your links for the entire week, leading up to the next prompt.

May you this week, and every week, find your muse most empowering! We can’t wait to see what you write…

This week’s, and the twenty third Writer’s Island prompt is: “Second Chance”.

As always, I don’t want to unduly influence you regarding how you approach this week’s prompt. Just ask yourself, what if you had a “Second Chance” — then please just tell us what that might mean to you. Stir our emotions!

•> This week I’m going to try something a bit different. This week there will be a second prompt. Every Friday here in the U.S., and perhaps world wide, the brand new movies open in the theaters. So I’m going to experiment with an extra prompt for a few weeks, one inspired by a current new movie. I’m calling this source of inspiration, the WI ‘Matinee Muse’.

We turn to the movie Vantage Point for our first ever ‘Matinee Muse’ prompt — and the prompt it inspires is: “Perspective”. See if that sparks anything for you. If we Islanders find the ‘Matinee Muse’ prompts enjoyable — they could become a regular weekly offering. <•

So, create your poem, prose, short story, essay, commentary, or whatever — and post it on your blog. Feel free to include recordings of you reading your work — and any photo, artwork, or graphic representation you feel is relevant.

May this, and every week, find your muse in a friendly mood! We can’t wait to see what you write…

Prompt & Link: “Changed”

February 8, 2008

Hello Islanders –

Before I share with you this week’s prompt, I wanted to share this note — to tell you I’m genuinely happy to see you here, on the Island.

I founded the Island originally as a temporary destination for those of us set adrift when Poetry Thursday sunk. But the Island has flourished… because of writers, like you, who come to enjoy the tropical breeze, and to simply write — for the sheer pleasure of it! So, the beaches remain open, and all are most welcome!

Here’s a couple creative ‘island hopping’ tips to keep your muse entertained when not on the Island. Poetry Thursday is now ReadWritePoem. Check them out if you haven’t. And the crew at Totally Optional Prompts is doing a fine job. Both are excellent writing destinations.

Well, that’s all I wanted to say, except to add: “may your seas always be calm with a fair wind at your back — and may it always carry you exactly where you should be!” ;)

Prompt & Link: “Magic”

February 1, 2008

______________________________________________________________________________________

NOTE: We enjoyed the largest response in quite a few weeks to last week’s prompt — so I’m going to stay with the new changes here on Writer’s Island, which had been suggested by a number of Islanders. It does seem to be making things easier for most, if not all. Please read the new simpler procedures in the sidebar.
