9:00 AM Friday morning, March 7th, 2008, on the U.S. west coast, is quickly approaching — so… here I am with a new Prompt! This week’s, and the twenty fifth Writer’s Island prompt is: “Rising”.
As always, I don’t want to impact your reaction to this week’s prompt. What ‘comes up’ for you when you consider — “Rising”? Please share that with us!
••> This week we turn to the new movie release, ‘10,000 BC’, as the source of our third Matinee Muse prompt — “Destiny”. See if that stirs your creative juices.
The Matinee Muse prompts are now a regular weekly offering. So please enjoy! <••
Feel free to use either, or both, of this week’s prompts — or use neither if you so choose. Whatever moves your soul this week is what we all want to read.
So, create your poem, prose, short story, essay, commentary, or whatever — and post it on your blog. Feel free to include recordings of you reading your work — and any photo, artwork, or graphic representation you feel is relevant.
When you have finished your piece, please return here to this post and place your link to your work as a comment — and as you know, just the link, not the piece.
Please realize there is no need to rush, this post will be open to receive your links for the entire week, leading up to the next prompt.
May you this week, and every week, find your muse uplifting! We can’t wait to see what you write…

The first thing that came to mind when I read the word “Rising” was Maya Angelou’s poem, Still I Rise. If you are not familiar with her works or this poem, please link:
Still I Rise.
I will post later on my own interpretation of Rising, but for now, enjoy the fruits of one of the best…..

I seek for ears and hearts to listen to the songs of my soul. . .
Here’s my rising As I Travel On to my destiny.
I’m forever grateful to find this island, where I found many hearts willing to listen and souls that sing.
I wish you well.

Hi fellow islanders!
I haven’t been around for awhile, but procrastination om midterm papers gives me time for poetry (funny how these things work!). Here’s one from me:

An entry from my journal:
What We May Be
The following poem has the concept of rising replete through it. Plants rising from the earth…thoughts rising from the mind…offerings rising from an altar.
a thoughtful germination: first fruits
Complications (Sleeping 2nd draft)
I guess you could now consider it dealing with destiny since I added fate.
When they rose to dance the floor filled with dancing ghosts…or at least it seemed that way.
