• ANNOUNCEMENT •

Greetings Islanders! We are on the doorstep of the season of warmth and bounty here in Oregon, where I live. This is an amazing time here — a time for incredible adventures, exploring this marvelous part of the world. Soon I will be at my computer much less frequently, opting to be immersed in nature!

Therefore, in the months of July, August, and September, there will be a new prompt post only once a month here on Writer’s Island, posted the beginning of each month — not every week. You will be able to post your link in ‘comments’ all day, every day, during that three month period.

The prompt post for July will appear at 12:01 AM on Friday, July 4th. The August prompt post will appear at 12:01 AM on Friday, August 1st. Friday, September 5th, will see the final ‘monthly’ prompt post.

The weekly prompt posts will then begin again on Friday, October 3rd, at 12:01 AM. On that day, a brand new Writer’s Island site will launch, with a few surprises — which I trust will prove exciting. Until then, I’ll see you each week through July 4th. …Rob

  1. Oh, no! I’m going to miss my fix of the Island every week!

But I like the idea of better. Bring it on!

I wrote something anyway, so there…LOL
I hope everyone has a great summer and looking forward to seeing you all monthly!

  3. I can feel the withdrawal symptoms starting already! oh well, i guess we will all have to post several! this week i wrote something on current events: Time For Change

  4. Sounds like a lovely way to enjoy the summer! Have a great one Rob, and I’ll be around once a month! 🙂

  5. Didn’t realize you were also an Oregonian. I keep trying to convince myself summer’s just around the corner, but it sure doesn’t look that way this morning…

    Just Jen –

You can still write and post weekly in each of the monthly prompts. There will be multiple prompts in each, so just tackle one each week — and do your favorite prompt twice.. 😉

    Tiel –

Yes… we live near Redland, SSE of Portland.

    What a ‘Spring’ so far… 😦

I may end up doing my summer adventures in rain gear this year!

Oh wow. Can we get three prompts at the start of each month? Just askin’ 😉

    Shellim2008 –

You are obviously new to the Island — so welcome!

Yes, we will continue offering three (3) prompts with every ‘Prompt & Link’ post, including the once-a-month ‘summer’ posts — just as we have consistently for the past several months.

  10. what a smart idea Rob! Happy summer time to you and your wife!
    e N j O y!!

  11. I’ve not yet joined in the Writer’s Island fun (although I’ve toyed with it several times). As soon as the flu and my son’s graduation pass, I just might give it a whirl.

I see you’re also a Pacific N.Westernererer. Are you going to the Willamette Writer’s Conference in August? I sincerely hope the weather improves or the drive from Seattle will be unpleasant.

    Ms. Karen –

We look forward to your giving it a “whirl”… 😉

  13. I commented below my dear friend, Ms Karen. YAY. Must be my lucky day. I’m all for the new format. I really enjoy the weekly prompts but a month will give me time to really fine tune my stories. I am very excited. Enjoy your summer.

  14. writersisland

Thank you to all who have past along kind ‘summer’ wishes!

May all your upcoming summer’s (or winter’s as the case may be) be filled with adventure and joy… 😉

  15. Have a great summer Rob! I think more outside/sun time is good for all of us but will miss your weekly prompts. Will plan to participate on a monthly basis though. Take care, happy trails, G

  16. Now I am here every Friday at 12:01 and you always seem to be a day behind………
    😉

    Steve —

You must arrive at 12:01 AM East Coast Time.

I only promise Friday 9:00 AM West Coast time in the first sentence of each prompt post, but the Prompt & Link posts actually go up Friday, at 12:01 AM West Coast time.

I have them pre-written and scheduled for publishing. Their launch is controlled by the WordPress ‘auto publish’ feature installed on the Writer’s Island blog site — unless my local Comcast internet trunk goes down… then it’s in the fickle hands of fate. 😉

  18. Rob,
My comment was tongue in cheek……Living some 12,000 kms away ya always will be a day behind……

    Steve –

    Oh my — that’s indeed a ways away… 😉

  20. Although my participation lately has been sporadic, it’s not for lack of affection for Writers Island (life has just been crazy). Enjoy your summer adventures! Looking forward to new site launch in the Fall. In the meantime, THANK YOU for being here. Now it’s time for me to get caught up on some of the recent prompts. 😉
