Welcome to week three (3) of the re-opening of Writer’s Island. In the first two weeks lots of Islanders, former and new, have come ashore to share their writing… so let’s keep the “language luau” cookin’!
Remember, new prompt(s) every Saturday, and to make it easy this time around, when what you’ve written is ready to read by the other Islanders, just post your link right here at the bottom of this post — no waiting, no looking for a different place to post your link, and you can leave a comment as a part of your posted link. You can now also reply directly to any other comment.
••> The third official re-opening celebration prompt is: THE KEY… Pretend you were digging in the sand, or exploring the old abandoned Island plantation, or the wreckage of that old ship on the rocks off the south shore — and you found a key. Tell us in your words (poem, prose, flash fiction) the why, who, what, where, when, or how regarding that key you’re holding — whatever moves you to write. Maybe it includes a visual response? It’s your thing — so do wha’cha wanna…
Relax, respond to the prompt when you’re ready — or just leave a comment to say hi! Again, welcome back to the the Island. Toss me a mango please, go have yourself a nice cool drink of choice, and let’s enjoy that tropical breeze!!! 😉
It’s my birthday today so this is slightly off key, or at least off prompt… ENLIGHTENMENT
I might be late home tonight – Don’t wait up for me…
Happy Birthday Stan — we will have to have a beach parteeeee for you tonight… time to round up the Islanders… parteeeee, parteeeee, parteeeee… 😉
Happy birthday Stan and many many more. Have a drink for me my friend.
Melanie
Hi Melanie, and we are toasting Stan this weekend as he has finally made it to 30 (or thereabouts)… 😉
Happy birthday Stan!
You’re looking fine and chipper on this fine Saturday on the Island Pamela — nice to see you… 😉
You’ll find mine here:
Enjoy.
Couldn’t find a poem. Lots of other interesting stuff, but no poem.
anthony does have great variety on his blog, but if you look, he usually has a direct response to the prompt. i’ll go check it out Viv… 😉
Yo Viv — Below is Anthony’s piece for the prompy, culled from his blog:
THE KEY
Find the key to know it all,
Ultimate knowledge to enthrall,
It’s in the deep mind, get it out,
Become a mystic, most devout,
Suddenly it floods in, the good and bad,
But beware, it’s enough to drive you mad,
Then you’ll be stuck needing another key,
Or the Asylum’s your only destiny
nice to see you on the Island Anthony… 😉
Always a pleasure. My magazine post can be confusing at times, though.
Your magazine post is COOL Anthony — it is just a lot to navigate the first time someone visits… I love it… 😉
Today is a very special day my way too! But it’s not my birthday!
It’s been a long walk on the beach…
Pleased you came ashore on your special day Gemma… 😉
That’s weird! My comment wasn’t moderated last time, but it is this time! Hmmm … Must have done something wrong!
Usually it is because we change an email or a virus gets detected on the site — but no fear, Jib the PortMaster brought you ashore… 😉
Totally different from last week’s post. Something a little fun for people to read.
Cool Kitty, I think we all like somethings fun and different — at least I do… 😉

Yo Dee, good of you to come ashore — can’t wait to read what you have offered… 😉
hello, Dee!
— loved your poem but couldn’t seem to get my comment to stick on your blog!
😀
Angie, try duct tape — always works for me… 😉 (oh my gawd, I didn’t really say that — did I)
Aloha.
Landlocked, here:
Aloha to you De, and maybe with this key we can open this landlock… 😉
I went to the attic with this one. Thanks for an interesting prompt.
We are glad you’re back from the attic… 😉

Thank you for sharing Brenda, once I moor all the boats and douse the beach torches, I’ll go check it out… 😉
Another excellent prompt, Rob! Here’s my poem.

Never pass up a chance to wiggle my toes in the sand and sip on something with fruit and umbrellas
aaah. I’m just about clueless when it comes to titles–this one’s called without
You are in the right place Barbara – welcome ashore… ;
Barbara, I think I was too late to comment on your blog, but I loved the play of your poem – so many ideas and good lines. Thanks!
Here are some ramblings of complete balderdash in answer to this prompt: http://vivinfrance.wordpress.com/
No writing is balderdash because the act of writing is a creative endeavor, and the world needs a helluva a lot more creative/positive energy, and a helluva lot less destructive/negative energy — so ramble on Viv, we enjoy your positive vibes here on the Island… 😉
Here’s mine.
Welcome back!
Welcome back to you Kathy, nice to see you on the beach again… 😉
This is my first visit to Writer’s Island, as I’m usually too engrossed in writing my novels! But recently I’ve felt that I needed a break from ‘The Space Between’ – which I’d been working on for the last couple of years. It’s still not quite finished but I’m afraid that to keep on writing it at the moment will spoil the quality of writing… you understand, I’m sure. Nicola
The Key
Welcome to Writer’s Island Nicola. If wandering our beaches, jotting off a bit of verse, helps recharge the creative energies — then please do so! We are here to bring a bit if fun and relaxation to the lives of the Islanders — so welcome ashore, nice to see you… 😉
Another Tanka. Why? I don’t know. I just like them.

Welcome back David — and we like tankas as well… 😉
this one came out a little serious — must be all the graduation-day thoughts in the air!
http://another2doors.wordpress.com/2010/05/16/skeleton-key/
I’ll be back this afternoon to visit — I promise!!
😀
Serious is always welcome Angie — as are you, here on the island… 😉
In response to this 3rd prompt on the newly re-opened Writer’s Island, I offer a gothic tale: The Key
I am posted now at the link beneath.

A little poem!

So good to see you on the beach Keith, welcome back… 😉
Your blog wouldn’t accept my comment!
I love the way you take the cliché of the key to your heart and turn it upside down to the lock on your soul. I like concise poems like this very much.
Keith, I like this poem a whole lot. 🙂
Rob, your prompts always conjure up something for me.
eggs in sandcastles
Don’t forget the sausage… 😉

Oops — sorry. That previous link may or may not work (Rob, feel free to delete my previous comment if you can), this one is better: http://lindagoin.com/2010/when-keys-wont-work.html
