Prompt #4 for 2010: Imaginary Friend

Welcome to week four (4) of the re-opening of Writer’s Island. This week will mark the first month back on the Island. It has been great seeing so many of our Islanders, former and new, coming ashore to share their writing. This is a nice sized island, and we have plenty of beaches — so bring your friends, and let’s crank up this “beach parteee” even further!

Remember, new prompt(s) every Saturday, and to make it easy this time around, when what you’ve written is ready to read by the other Islanders, just post your link right here at the bottom of this post — no waiting, no looking for a different place to post your link, and you can leave a comment as a part of your posted link. You can now also reply directly to any other comment.

β€’β€’> The 4th re-opening celebration prompt is: IMAGINARY FRIEND… Pretend you are stranded on a deserted island, or lost in a jungle, or marooned on a planet — and you are alone, so to pass the time, you ‘create’ a friend. Or perhaps you imagine what the ideal friend might be like in your life as it is right now, or how you might be the ideal friend — maybe you already have a friend who is so amazing, they defy imagination. Tell us in your words (poem, prose, flash fiction) the why, who, what, where, when, or how regarding that friend/friendship — whatever moves you to write. Maybe it includes a visual response? It’s your thing — so do wha’cha wanna…

Relax, respond to the prompt when you’re ready — or just leave a comment to say hi! Again, welcome back to the the Island. I’m going to check out some of the Island’s orchids. Go have yourself a nice cool drink of choice, and let’s all bask in this tropical beauty!!! πŸ˜‰

I was hoping this prompt might tap into some reserve or trappings of childhood memory. Happy weekend to you Gemma, and thank you for sharing… πŸ˜‰

  4. This is my first go at this prompt, a true story, but out and out doggerel. http://vivinfrance.wordpress.com

Something a bit more profound is germinating in my head (I hope it will emerge as more than a seedling)

Fairies are familiar with the Island Irene, they have a community up in the forest – they love to share tales… πŸ˜‰

  8. Here’s my second attempt, provoked by a visit to one of my favourite museums: The MusΓ©e Christian Dior, which is in the house and garden where he spent his childhood in Granville, Basse Normandie, France.

  16. I have overcome my initial lack of motivation for this prompt. Red Room.

    • Ron, your red room refused to let me leave a comment. I tried to create a new account, using my usual pseudonym and password, but it told me that I
already had an account but denied the password!

And now, I’ve forgotten what I was going to say…

Oh yes, something about your alter ego.

Couldn’t get into Ron’s Red Room Viv — wonder what you missed?… 😐

    • writersisland

Slow as sap is fine Lucy, that is why the “open for posting” light stays on all week here at Writer’s Island… πŸ˜‰

I’m rather late coming to the party, but mine is at http://thelaughinghousewife.wordpress.com

    • writersisland

There is no “late” Tilly, the beach party goes on 24/7 here on the Island — welcome… πŸ˜‰

    • writersisland

Michael, welcome to Writer’s Island, and there is no deadline for posting a response to any prompt — only a publication day and time for the new prompts… πŸ˜‰
