Prompt #21 for 2010: Fisherman

Welcome to Writer’s Island.

New prompt(s) are posted every Saturday. Consider the prompt in depth, then let inspiration carry you. When you feel what you’ve written is ready to be read by the other Islanders, just post your link right here in the comments section at the bottom of this post. Please leave whatever expanded comment you wish as a part of your posted link. You can also reply directly to any other comment.

β€’β€’> The twenty first prompt for 2010, an idyllic painting by Vane Kosturanov entitled: “FISHERMAN”. (click image to see larger in separate window)

So changing it up again this week, I have decided to offer this titled visual prompt. You can let yourself be inspired by the title. What are the levels of meaning one might attach to the term fisherman – beyond the obvious?

Or let the serene, ‘walden-esque’ image of the painting itself evoke in you the inspiration to write… deeply contemplative, perhaps a touch of expectation, possibility, or a little shiver of anticipation of the unknown! Take it in through your eyes, hold it a moment in your soul, then whatever it is that strikes you as you view, express it.

Simple this week, the title of the painting or the painting itself — whichever sparks your muse… just let yourself go with whatever it is that moves you to write. If you decide to feature the image of the “Fisherman” on your site along with your written piece, please be very certain to fully credit Mr. Kosturanov for his work, and I would suggest also including a link to his site.

My thanks to Mr. Kosturanov for granting us permission to use his art as our prompt for this week. If you would like to visit Vane’s site, click here.

Relax, respond to the prompt when you’re ready — or just leave a comment to say hi! As always, welcome to the the Island!!! πŸ˜‰

  3. I’ve just posted a plea on the Miserable Old Bat’s blog:

I will now go away and await brickbats, while working on today’s prompt.

  4. Beautiful serene picture and wonderful prompt as always … thanks :o)

  5. ‘And he saith unto them, Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men’. My (non-churchy) link is via my name above.

  6. Irene

I don’t think my poem turned out very Zen.

You can find mine at the link below. For this one, I’m fishing for answers on a dream I had the other night. A scrap from my dream journal (how few there are cause I can rarely remember them ,LOL). Great prompt!

  8. Loved reading everyone last week. Look forward to this week. This is the 20th instalment in a series about the voices in my head. Great Prompt. Happy Saturday everyone!

Be Inspired Today! Love and Light,

Thank you Sender, I dare not commit to print what a few of the voices in my head tell me — not violent or dangerous, just embarrassing… πŸ˜‰

  9. Well, it took me a while; but I ended up preserving a childhood memory:

  10. I hope you all enjoy. My wife told me to make it happier than my normal poems, and this much is true.

  11. My first foray on the “island”. Sending out my first ripple.

  12. My friend introduced me to this site. I am looking forward to getting to know other writers and their work.

  13. I hope this works and I’m not sending two. Techno duh here.

  14. KB

Love the tranquil pic but I’ve gone a different route…The Deadliest Catch (my favourite fishermen). Have a great week.

  15. Nice prompt, thank you. πŸ™‚

    Different Kind of Fishermen

  18. hello wi … came by late last night to check out the new prompt… have really been enjoying the subject matter of yr prompts… lost my ‘puter for awhile so glad to have it back… summer is winding down so hopefully will have more time to write again…. take care… renee

  19. What a grand prompt, Rob! I haven’t written anything for weeks (blocked and short of time), but Vane Kosturanov’s wonderful painting inspired me to try a haiku. You can find it here

  20. Back again. This one had me stumped. This isn’t my usual style of writing but I think it works.

  21. Is fishing a relaxing hobby? Statistics in Haiku:

    Half like it. Half don’t.
It all depends on which end
    of the line you’re on.

    (Hope silly is welcome.) πŸ˜‰

Silly is wonderful Marie Elena, we’re on the Island to enjoy — wait until you see next week’s prompt… πŸ˜‰

      • Sounds al-lure-ing. πŸ˜‰ I see that I was supposed to post a link only — not in the comment section of this site. The only blog site I have is a shared one with a fantastic poet, Walt Wojtanik. However, our shared blog is for a specific focus. I’ve been toying with the idea of creating my own blog … perhaps I need to consider this more seriously.

      • writersisland

Marie, we’re happy to have you! The real purpose to post on your site and link from here is to bring traffic to your site. If you have no site, post here — we Islanders being able to read each others work is what is most important, and we thank you for joining us and sharing… πŸ˜‰

PS – you ‘caught’ me with your play on words… πŸ˜‰

  22. This prompt has been drifting round my head all weekend! I kept changing my mind what to write! But finally, the ongoing grey rainy weather inspired me!
