Welcome to Writer’s Island.
New prompt(s) are posted every Saturday. Consider the prompt in depth, then let inspiration carry you. When you feel what you’ve written is ready to be read by the other Islanders, just post your link right here in the comments section at the bottom of this post. Please leave whatever expanded comment you wish as a part of your posted link. You can also reply directly to any other comment.
β’β’> The twenty first prompt for 2010, an idyllic painting by Vane Kosturanov entitled: “FISHERMAN”. (click image to see larger in separate window)
So changing it up again this week, I have decided to offer this titled visual prompt. You can let yourself be inspired by the title. What are the levels of meaning one might attach to the term fisherman – beyond the obvious?Or let the serene, ‘walden-esque’ image of the painting itself evoke in you the inspiration to write… deeply contemplative, perhaps a touch of expectation, possibility, or a little shiver of anticipation of the unknown! Take it in through your eyes, hold it a moment in your soul, then whatever it is that strikes you as you view, express it.
Simple this week, the title of the painting or the painting itself — whichever sparks your muse… just let yourself go with whatever it is that moves you to write. If you decide to feature the image of the “Fisherman” on your site along with your written piece, please be very certain to fully credit Mr. Kosturanov for his work, and I would suggest also including a link to his site.
My thanks to Mr. Kosturanov for granting us permission to use his art as our prompt for this week. If you would like to visit Vane’s site, click here.
Relax, respond to the prompt when you’re ready — or just leave a comment to say hi! As always, welcome to the the Island!!! π
Right now, I’ll just say Hi π
Hi Nimaruichi, welcome to Writer’s Island… π

Just a slice of life!
Thanks for the slice Brenda… π
I tried to comment on these, Rinkly, but it wouldn’t have me! You cheered me up enormously with both of these. Does anyone remember Beryl Reid? “She’s my best friend, and I hate her.”
I’ve just posted a plea on the Miserable Old Bat’s blog: http://vivnada.wordpress.com/2010/09/18/rant-punctuation/
I will now go away and await brickbats, while working on today’s prompt.
Oh dear, what have you done now Viv… π
Beautiful serene picture and wonderful prompt as always … thanks :o)
You are most welcome Deborah, pleased you are here… π
Ooops … forgot to leave my link … heres mine :o)

That is a difficult quote to avoid — thank you for sharing Dick… π
I’m a new fan, Dick. Have been out of town, so didn’t “do” this prompt, but left a comment on your site.
Great Prompt! Mine’s here: http://calistablu.blogspot.com/2010/09/one-more-fish.html
Wonderful BJ, we’re glad you’re here… π
I don’t think my poem turned out very Zen.
on the last day
Irene, zen is not a requirement, your being inspired is what matters — thank you for sharing… π
You can find mine at the link below. For this one, I’m fishing for answers on a dream I had the other night. A scrap from my dream journal (how few there are cause I can rarely remember them ,LOL). Great prompt!

The poem is called The fisher-child
Oh my Viv, you’re just too excited by your recent punctuation rant… π
I am pleased you found the image engaging Viv — the pieces of Vane’s work that draw me I find quite fascinating… π
I had our Writer’s Island Portmaster, Johnathon “Jib” McGinnis, fix your link above for you Viv — he takes care of you and I, and the rest of the Islanders… π

Thank you Sender, I dare not commit to print what a few of the voices in my head tell me — not violent or dangerous, just embarrassing… π

What a grand prompt, Rob! I haven’t written anything for weeks (blocked and short of time), but Vane Kosturanov’s wonderful painting inspired me to try a haiku. You can find it here

http://sleepykitty07.blogspot.com/2010/09/fisherman.html
Nice to see you Kitty, and thanks for trying something new for us… π
Is fishing a relaxing hobby? Statistics in Haiku:
Half like it. Half don’t.
It all depends on which end
of the line you’re on.
(Hope silly is welcome.) π
Silly is wonderful Marie Elena, we’re on the Island to enjoy — wait until you see next week’s prompt… π
Sounds al-lure-ing. π I see that I was supposed to post a link only — not in the comment section of this site. The only blog site I have is a shared one with a fantastic poet, Walt Wojtanik. However, our shared blog is for a specific focus. I’ve been toying with the idea of creating my own blog … perhaps I need to consider this more seriously.
Marie, we’re happy to have you! The real purpose to post on your site and link from here is to bring traffic to your site. If you have no site, post here — we Islanders being able to read each others work is what is most important, and we thank you for joining us and sharing… π
PS – you ‘caught’ me with your play on words… π
Nice to see you here, hon! Amy
My fisherman is waiting for you at

You paddled back Nimaruichi, very cool… π
