Prompt #9 for 2011: Improvise

Welcome to Writer’s Island.

We are pleased to now be in our fifth (5th) year here on the Island, providing writing prompts. New prompt(s) are posted every Saturday at 12:01 AM, U.S. East Coast Time. Consider the prompt in depth, then let inspiration carry you.

When you feel what you’ve written is ready to be read by the other Islanders, just post your link right here in the comments section at the bottom of this post. Please leave whatever expanded comment you wish as a part of your posted link. You can also reply directly to any other comment.

••> The ninth prompt for 2011 is “IMPROVISE”, inspired by our little friend here making clever use of the phone books.

So consider the various meanings of the word, such as… • to compose, recite, play, or sing spontaneously • to make, invent, or arrange offhand • to make or fabricate out of, or make use of, what is conveniently on hand, such as to improvise a meal • to ad-lib, extemporize, or fake — let the word improvise spark your muse… or choose to go in your own direction with your piece this week. Just let yourself go with whatever it is that moves you to write.

Relax, respond to the prompt when you’re ready — or just leave a comment to say hi! As always, welcome to the the Island!!! 😉

Thank you Islanders all for your contributions, especially you who return consistently to these shores for inspiration! Though circumstances have meant I be less active in recent weeks, I certainly enjoy conjuring prompts — and will continue to do so, as long as there are poets/writers like you who embrace them. I foresee my ability to participate increasing in the near future, and I hope to do just that. Welcome to Writer’s Island…!

  8. Hey, I’m not too late, am I! Here is my piece, somewhat light and just for the fun of poeming!
