Prompt #18 for 2010: If Only…

β€’β€’> The eighteenth prompt for 2010 is: IF ONLY… How many ways can one go with that short phrase? If only…: …I’d been there …you’d been here …you could have seen …I ruled the world …I had listened …you had listened …it were up to me …I hadn’t …I would have …you knew …you could see …time stood still …I could change …it had been different …I could remember — I think you get the picture, the ways to continue the phrase “if only” are seemingly endless. For this prompt, pick one and go with it.

So please consider the short phrase, and tell us in your words (poem, prose, flash fiction, etc.) the who, what, where, when, why or how regarding if only… — include any visual image you might want to incorporate, and let yourself go with whatever it is that moves you to write…

    I posted a piece of microfiction with this title a while back. Are we permitted to repeat? (I have a busy week this week)

    My apologies. My puter is having issues, so it might take me a bit of time to get back and read everyone else’s responses. I’m slow, puter is definitely slower today.

    This is my first time here.

    Instead of repeating “if only,” it felt right to use the repetition of “it’s okay.” Yes, you may have many wishes and desires, but it’s okay if you can’t have them, it’s okay to feel alone, it’s okay to feel helpless.
