Welcome to Writer’s Island.
New prompt(s) are posted every Saturday. Consider the prompt in depth, then let inspiration carry you. When you feel what you’ve written is ready to be read by the other Islanders, just post your link right here in the comments section at the bottom of this post. Please leave whatever expanded comment you wish as a part of your posted link. You can also reply directly to any other comment.
β’β’> The “lucky” thirteenth prompt for 2010 is something a little different — just for fun. The prompt is: TITLES… Please permit me to explain a bit more. Go grab your favorite music album/CD that contains a number of different songs. Look at the titles, then use all, or as many or few of these “complete” titles as you wish to create your written piece.
You can arrange them in any order, and may certainly use additional words, but you should try to use as many of them as possible. Also, each title you use you should include in its entirety, precisely as it is written, omitting no words. OK? OK — give it a spin, and have fun… π
Relax, respond to the prompt when you’re ready — or just leave a comment to say hi! As always, welcome to the the Island!!! π
Her’s my mix: <a href=http://says-sir-ten.blogspot.com/2010/07/titles.html PUT EVERYTHING TOGETHER
Ok… a bit too early…
Try this PUT EVERYTHING TOGETHER
Thank you Stan for sharing… π
This prompt brings me back to the 80s..
method of modern love
Taking us back to the birth of MTV — cool Irene… π
This one has really bamboozled me. I’ve already written two poems to this prompt, neither of which is worth putting up here. I’m off to try again…
Don’t make it too difficult for yourself Viv, if you only find inspiration from pairing a couple titles, or if you may not have them on a record/CD — that’s cool… there are some fine Cole Porter titles out there in GoogleLand for example, that would lend themselves well to poetry, build a poem from a pair of those… π
The best sources are indeed websites. Best titles are from Harold Arlen, Johnny Mercer, Hoagy Carmichael… if you’re a city person, Duke Ellington offers a lot. Also Lennon/McCartney.
I will be back with mine shortly
I love this prompt!
Pamela
Cool Pamela, looking forward to seeing what you bring to the beach… π
This was an enjoyable exercise, thanks! Into every life a little John Trudell should fall. He makes me think.

Very cool Brenda, thanks fro bringing John to the Island… π
Here are my pathetic attempts: http://vivinfrance.wordpress.com/2010/07/24/titles/
and now I can enjoy everyone else’s
No attempt is pathetic Viv, only not attempting is… π
For the prompt, I used titles of a lesser known band called Break of Reality. The short story I wrote for the prompt is called Parabolic Noise.

Excellent Weasel, we will enjoy something obscure… π
I used an eclectic collection of music for this prompt!

Eclectic is very cool Pamela… π
A fevered dream inspired by Joni Mitchell: Burn
I see you brought your ‘fantasy lady’ to the beach, you’re lucky your wife is so understanding — perhaps we can coax Joni into doing a tune or two… π
Well, that was different! Fun though.

Glad you enjoyed it Keith, thank you for contributing — and always a pleasure to see you on the Island… π
This was fun!

Always great to see you surf up Wayne — thank you for sharing… π
Great prompt. Here’s mine:
Also just wanted to say a great big grateful THANK YOU to any who have taken the time to stop by and comment. It is SO appreciated, and I am hoping/trying to find/have/make/take the time to do the same.
de
Yo De, thank you for contributing — and its important that we all are aware that our visits to the other writers/poets is a key part of being a neighborly Islander… and you are… π
You’re right, Islander! One of the things I enjoy about this blog is being able to visit the work of others in their own milieu. On Poetic Asides (where De and I often hang), you have the option of visiting their site, but the actual poem posted. This, too, offers advantages. Nice to have both options available – plus, your prompts are imaginative. Amy
Sorry if I have been “unneighborly” by not always finding the time to browse others’ sites. I hope one is still welcome here on weeks when time is short?
You’ll find mine here:
A model Islander you are Anthony — thank you… π
Well, as usual, I did not follow the rules. Titles
Rules schmules Annie, you participated and that is what counts — and I ‘fixed’ your link here so it now goes straight to your post… π
Cheating, in this case, is a very good thing.
Ugh. Ignore this. At 2:23 a.m., I’ve confused myself and must try this one more time and finally get this comment in its proper place.
I found your post by clicking on your name, but couldn’t find a place to comment on it.
I love your collages, explanations, embroidery on the right of your blog, and your taste in books!
All Islanders get confused sometimes Annie, its all the tropical beauty that surrounds us here — makes us light-headed… and see, Viv found your post… π
Don’t worry, be happy — smile Annie… and have a MaiTai, or a lemonaide… π

I’ve gone right back to my less than heady youth for this!
Cool Brenda, thanks for taking us along — and how very cool is ‘The Chairman’ Mr. Frank! Nice to see you on the beach this fine day… π
Mine will come in a few hrs time π I am still doing up the image XD~
We’re all over here by the ‘refreshment’ cabana, so take your time Riika — the waves are beautiful today and we’re all just hangin’ mellow… π
Here’s mine: http://thelaughinghousewife.wordpress.com/2010/07/25/titled/
Tilly, good morning — and nice surf board you have there… π
A bit late with this, but I REALLY loved the prompt!
http://inthecornerofmyeye.blogspot.com/2010/07/soolaimon.html
No ‘late’ on the Island Mary, we through the clocks away long ago — nice to see you strolling the beach, and thank you for sharing… π
a bit late
http://distillingthoughts.blogspot.com/2010/07/angels.html
A bit nice of you to share Totomai, thank you — and we all run on Island time here, which automatically makes all of us punctual, no matter when we arrive… π
Hope my butterfly jukebox will work π
http://riikainfinityy.com/2010/07/26/my-butterfly-jukebox/
It should Riika, we have butterfly power here on the Island — thank you for bringing it ashore… π
;D Yeah butterfly power!<3
Wasn’t a huge stretch to add a little more blues to the mix. Look for Title Me the Blues It was fun.
Sweet, you brought some blues to the beach — very cool Barbara… π

Greetings Ode, looks like you may have brought a bit of Pink to the beach — how very cool… π
Thanks ! π
Couldn’t find a comment button. Comfortably Numb was covered to odd but delightful effect by The Scissor Sisters. I love that you used ALL titles with no fill-in words or phrases. Grooved on it! Amy
Thanks for the prompt – here’s my bit:

Old, you’re not old Amy — just well traveled… π
My husband says, “It ain’t the year or model, it’s the mileage – and the more, the better!”
My wife, 16 years my junior, says she doesn’t mind my high mileage — because I’m low maintenance… and I’m ‘broken in’ for comfort… π
…rob
PS – I just love my wife…
One more! Inspiring prompt – thanks, Mary!
