PROMPT: “Friendship”

I was sitting peacefully on my deck yesterday, overlooking the ocean, as I finished reading one of the most riveting books I’ve read in quite a while — “Kite Runner”.

I could hear the seas rise and roll, as images from the book flooded through my thoughts. As I read the final words, I gently closed the cover, and looked out over the vast blue.

I was flashing back on the friends I had from my youth, and how many endured, or did not last. I began to meditate on just what friendship really is, or is not. I was filled with some very warm memories of people I’ve not seen for a long time, and whom I miss dearly.

I also thought about a wonderful friend of 25 years, who is still an important part of my life. As I sat there reminiscing, it became obvious to me what the next prompt was going to be… “Friendship”.

So… for the tenth Writers Island prompt, look through your life, focus on the friends you’ve been blessed with — and tell us about friendship. Define it for us, or tell us how it feels, or what it means to you, and put that in your poem, prose, short story, essay, or commentary — then post it on your blog. If not friendship, write about whatever moves you.

Feel free to include recordings of you reading your work — and any photo, artwork, or graphic representation you feel is relevant.

If you’re new to the island, the details for coming ashore can be found in the right sidebar. To our regular islanders, you know how to navigate the surf — and welcome back!

Everyone, please return here Tuesday, November 13th. At 12:01 AM, U.S. East Coast Time, a new post will be open for you to place, at your convenience, the link to the piece you’ve written — and which you have posted on your site.
